Multiple computers connected to the internet are referred to as being on a WAN (Wide Area Network). Networked computers are referred to as a LAN (Local Area Network).
Depending on your situation you either need office networking or home networking. In both environments the decision is to implement a wired network or a wireless network. Both achieve the same results though there are some differences. In terms of reliability & speed a wired network is superior. In terms of ease of installation in a non-wired location wireless networking is preferred. In recent years wireless network technology has improved in both reliability and speed and continues to improve.
Determine which of the 4 types you may need either at the office or home. Then decide which is the best choice for you, a wired or wireless network. Keep in mind that if there is not wiring in the location it usually can be installed. If wiring exists is it ample for your needs? Also, you can do a hybrid of wired and wireless to meet your needs.
